To the Children

I mean, really?
Not letting your child watch this?
Not letting them understand responsibility and that it lies in the hands of the children? Not letting them see that school is good?

Even if you don't like him,
he is our PRESIDENT
And does deserve our respect.

And at Timberline, students only were able to watch it IF they brought a signed permission slip.
At least at Lone Peak, they only had slips if parents strongly felt either way.

Either way, it still makes me sick.

And here it is if you missed it.
Personally, I thought it was great.

TV 24/7

It drives me crazy.
Our TV is on all of the time.
And not on anything good, but our TV spends most of it's time
on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network.
And whenever I want a turn to watch something that I recorded.

I can't.
Because it's already on and being used.

She drives me crazy.

"Squid"

This is my little sister.

One day I dropped off her lunch at school and I asked one of the students in her class if they knew where Sydnee was. He asked, "Oh, you mean Squid?" I laughed. I knew that she goes by Squid sometimes. Because that's one of her many nicknames at our house. But I had no idea that her entire class called her that. Oh, she's a cutie.

She turned 12 on Monday. I can't believe it. The little baby is growing up so fast. .

And I think this picture is funny.

I love Sydnee so much.
She has added so much life and joy to our family. Really. Our house would be pretty boring without her.

One thing that I love about Sydnee is how intune she is with our feelings. I cannot think of a time when she has not ran to my side to offer me a hug in times where I've been sad. She is always the first one to wrap her arms around me and whisper an 'I love you' in my ear. Most of the time she has absolutely NO idea what I'm crying about. But she always makes me feel better.

She sees the good in everyone. There has never been a time when she's had anything rude or disrespectful to say about any of my friends or anyone at all, for that matter. She can get along with everyone. And I've never known anyone with so many friends . . .

Another thing with Sydnee is that she takes every step with a smile and a positive attitude. When a situation comes up, she learns to go through it happily.

When giving gifts, Sydnee is the easiest to please. One year, I gave her a little stuffed unicorn from the dollar section, and it was her favorite present. She walked around for months carrying 'Uni' and explaining that he was her favorite gift.

She has always offered a laugh because she's Syd. From yelping monkeys Christmas morning to water-filled rubber gloves as pets she has been a joy in my life.

I look up to her.
Not just because she's 'almost taller than me'
But because she's Sydnee.
And she's someone that I want to be like
and I don't think she realizes that.

My house is

unusually empty
and quiet.. .

because these two sistas and bffs are gone

and i miss them dearly

and am nervous and excited for the trek stories tomorrow. . .

Mc. .. Mc. . . Michael Jackson

Three things.

Thing One.
We were watching the news today.
It's pretty sad that Michael Jackson died and stuff. . .
We were all pretty worked up,
Except for my dad.
Who we kept entertained by saying 'Freak' throughout the program.
But the BEST part of the night was when the news reporter introduced their attorney, 'Mc. . Mc. . McMullin'.
This was funny because it took us back to McDonalds three years ago, when we were hungry and traveling. and my dad ordered a 'Mc. . Mc. . Mcnugget'.
So when the news reporter stumbled on his mcs, naturally, we laughed for like ten mintues.

Thing Two.
In mission prep this morning, a man said that he went to seoul korea on his mission. I turned to Christine, and said, "Michael Jensen is there!". She turned to me and was like "He died, Lauren." I couldn't believe it. And was extremely confused as to why I hadn't heard this. Tears were almost coming out of my eyes, and I asked "Like on his mission, as an elder?" She looked confused and really slowly said, "M i c h a e l J a c k s o n d i e d." Oh. . . Michael JACKSON. Then I laughed, extremely relieved.

Thing Three.
Michael Jackson was great. I wish that all music videos were as cool as his were. Way cool. It's true, he was a bit of a freak, with his umbrella and everything else. But great.

It's Fathers Day Today

---------------

And my father wins!

because he is the funniest person I know.

The other day I got a random letter from my good friend's mission companion. Haha. Enclosed with the letter, was a picture. Him and a Tongan companion. On the back it said, 'I'm on the right - not the Tongan'.

My dad of course had to come up with something way better to send back. In the morning I woke up and found on the counter two photo shopped pictures with me and various Tongan women, explaining to this guy which one I was. Not the Tongan, that is.

He loves Seinfeld. And Jerry sometimes reminds me of him. Especially this episode.

He always talks about how he is going to be so scary when someone picks us up from a date or something, and jokes about sitting on the porch with a gun, which would never be found in our home. But, for some reason, when the boys get to the door he just smiles and laughs and the threatening words never come. Which I think is funny.

Also, he nicknames people a lot. Which makes me laugh. Rylee Jo Swandive, McHenry, Ereeka, Asquexis, Elixer, Squash Monster, Tanya, Sister Blackham, Austonian, Bailey, Shad, Charles (Manson). And all my friends right now he just groups together as Donald Duck's nephews: Dewey, Huey, and Lewey and sometimes adds random rhymes.

Thanks to him, I'm a little bit funny sometimes.

I just love my daddy.
